Actor Paul Walker, who shot to fame as star of the high-octane street racing franchise "Fast & Furious," died Saturday in a car crash in Southern California. He was 40.

Paul Walker, star of "The Fast and the Furious" movies, died Saturday in a car crash in Southern California. He was 40. Walker was in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles north of Los Angeles, for a charity event to benefit his organization Reach Out Worldwide when the fatal accident occurred.

According to a police report, the crash involved only one vehicle.
The police report goes on to state that the car was already in flames when authorities arrived, and the victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

Reps from Universal, the studio behind Fast & Furious, released the following statement: "All of us at Universal are heartbroken. Paul was truly one of the most beloved and respected members of our studio family for 14 years, and this loss is devastating to us, to everyone involved with the Fast & Furious films, and to countless fans. We send our deepest and most sincere condolences to Paul's family."

Walker is survived by his 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
